The system is called the EES (Entry/Exit System), which will be operational from October 12.

This was reported by the European Commission.

Instead of a passport stamp when entering the EU and Schengen area, travelers will have to provide biometric data – either fingerprints or a facial photo. This data will be captured when they first cross the border, and then the system will automatically register entries and exits without physical intervention.

The new system will cover 29 countries, including all Schengen states. The changes will affect third-country nationals entering the EU for short-term visits – including tourists, drivers, bus passengers, etc.

One of the goals of launching the EES is to improve control over the duration of stay of foreigners: the system will be able to instantly detect violations of visa rules or overstaying.

The project is being implemented as part of the “smart border” initiative, which also involves speeding up procedures for frequent travelers and strengthening measures against illegal migration.

New scanners are already in operation at the Eurostar terminal in London, and biometric kiosks for drivers and passengers are being completed at the Port of Dover. All EU countries are to gradually integrate the EES into their national immigration systems within six months.

At the same time, the launch of the mobile application for the EES has been postponed for now – due to the need for additional technical synchronization between member states.

Let us remind you that in Ukraine, against the backdrop of war and martial law, there is a trend of students going abroad after the 11th grade, in particular, this applies to girls.

As reported, the Baltic countries, Northern Europe and Poland plan to ban entry into the Schengen zone to Russian citizens who participated in the war against Ukraine . The joint decision has already been approved by the interior ministers of the respective states.

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , Twitter , Telegram , and Instagram .

The European Union is gradually rolling out a new digital border control system that will replace traditional passport stamping with the collection of travelers’ biometric data.
