The Russian nuclear industry is rapidly deteriorating. The flagship of the Russian economy, Rosatom, which operates 11 nuclear power plants and generates 20% of the country’s electricity, has appealed to the state.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported<\/a> by the Center for Countering Disinformation.<\/p>\n

Rosatom is asking for subsidized loan rates and the provision of “special” resources for the implementation of projects from 2027, as the company is no longer able to independently raise funds for the construction of nuclear power plants due to the economic crisis and sanctions.<\/p>\n

“Company representatives admitted that they have repeatedly initiated financing of low-power power units from the budget, but without success. Back in 2024, there was talk of the need for a separate state program to support floating nuclear power plant projects, since without subsidies their economy is absolutely unviable,” the Central Nuclear Power Plant noted.<\/p>\n

Despite the decline at home, Moscow still demonstrates ambitions in the global nuclear market, such as through a memorandum on “peaceful atom” with the Nigerien Ministry of Energy.<\/p>\n

Behind the facade of partnership lies an attempt to gain access to African uranium, create dependence on Russia, and circumvent sanctions.<\/p>\n

“Most sectors of the Russian Federation’s industry exist at the expense of budget subsidies. And the decline of previously leading areas of the Russian Federation’s economy confirms that it is becoming increasingly difficult to patch up the “holes,” the CSD noted.<\/p>\n
