Ukrainian director Andriy Pryimachenko has defended the rights to his work, which was used without permission by the American television company HBO in the series “Chernobyl”.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He announced<\/a> this on Facebook.<\/p>\n

The copyright infringement case began back in 2019 after the premiere of the series “Chernobyl”.<\/p>\n

In the first episode of the film, the directors used, without permission or knowledge, a video<\/a> by Priymachenko, which contained a recording of telephone conversations between the dispatcher of the central fire communications point with dispatchers of the Chernobyl NPP’s paramilitary fire department and with the fire department leadership.<\/p>\n

Prymachenko reported that an agreement was concluded with HBO.<\/p>\n

“This is a significant precedent when it was possible to defend the copyright of a Ukrainian in a US court in a case with one of the largest American (and world) media companies,” Pryimachenko wrote.<\/p>\n

He also said that his priority in the case was to restore justice.<\/p>\n

“No matter what company it is, no matter what country it is from – whether it’s the USA or China – you can’t take someone else’s work and pretend like nothing happened,” he added.<\/p>\n

Primachenko noted that, according to the terms of the contract, he could not disclose the details of the deal. However, in a comment to the media, he reported that the trial ended with a settlement agreement with the payment of a one-time financial reward.<\/p>\n
