US President Donald Trump has changed his approach to India policy to put more pressure on Vladimir Putin to stop the war against Ukraine.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported<\/a> in Bloomberg.<\/p>\n

India has been a major target for Trump recently. He has repeatedly criticized India for its membership in the BRICS and close ties with Russia.<\/p>\n

“The rebuke marked a striking change in tone from the United States, which for years ignored India’s close historical ties with Russia as it sought to engage the country as a counterweight to China in Asia. Now Trump seems ready to abandon that strategy in order to gain leverage over Putin, who is resisting the US president’s efforts to end the fighting in Ukraine,” the publication noted.<\/p>\n

At the same time, India is defending its relations with Russia. The country’s Foreign Ministry stated that it has a stable partnership with Russia.<\/p>\n

“Our bilateral relations with various countries have their own value and should not be viewed through the prism of a third country,” the Indian Foreign Minister said.<\/p>\n

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also urged Indians to buy local goods amid Trump’s threats to impose tariffs. His administration also made it clear that it would continue to buy oil from Russia.<\/p>\n

“A US delegation is expected to visit India at the end of the month to negotiate a trade deal after Trump announced a 25% tariff on goods from that country,” Bloomberg noted.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, US President Donald Trump announced the introduction of new tariffs for India<\/a> : from August 1, the country will have to pay 25%. He explained that India buys most of its military equipment from Russia and, together with China, is one of the largest consumers of Russian energy.<\/p>\n

It is worth adding that Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that India will be able to meet its oil needs from alternative sources<\/a> if Russian supplies are cut off by US sanctions.<\/p>\n

Earlier it became known that China refused to comply with Washington’s ultimatum and said that it would continue to import oil from Russia and Iran, despite the threat of 100% tariffs from the US<\/a> .<\/p>\n
