The production of bullets and even fighter jets is at risk.

This was reported in the WSJ.

The publication notes that almost all supply chains for key critical minerals used by the United States depend on at least one Chinese supplier. Such dependence means control by Beijing, which could cause large-scale production disruptions.

“The Pentagon is requiring defense contractors to stop purchasing rare-earth magnets containing minerals of Chinese origin by 2027. As a result, some companies have significant inventory of the magnets. But suppliers and defense companies often have inventories of many critical minerals that last less than a year, and some only a few months,” the material says.

Using its influence, China began requiring companies to provide extensive documentation on how they would use imported rare earth elements and magnets.

According to industry traders, some metals needed for the defense industry are now selling for five or more times the normal price.

Samarium, an element needed to make magnets, was recently traded at 60 times its normal price. Such price speculation is driving up the cost of defense systems.

One Western company that supplies Chinese-made rare-earth magnets to both civilian and defense companies said its requests to import magnets were recently approved for many civilian uses, but rejected or delayed for the defense and aerospace industries.

“Because China requires knowing the end user of rare earth magnets and metals, it does not approve licenses for traders to stockpile,” the WSJ reported.

Earlier, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant warned China that purchases of Russian oil would lead to the imposition of high tariffs .

By the way, the Kremlin has almost exhausted its arsenal of Soviet weapons, and its dependence on North Korea, Iran, and China has significantly increased .

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , Twitter , Telegram , and Instagram.

China is restricting the flow of critical minerals to Western defense manufacturers, stalling production and forcing companies to seek alternatives around the world.
