According to the Marine Mammal Rescue Center, police were notified at about 2:45 p.m. local time of a whale spotted in the bay, near the entrance to the water area. Less than an hour later, a report of a collision between a vessel and a marine mammal was received.

A video posted on social media captured the moment of impact: the boat lurched sharply, after which one of the passengers was thrown into the water. Witnesses shouted: “Oh my God, they’re overboard! There’s a man in the water!” The victim was quickly lifted back onto the boat, and, according to media reports, his life is not in danger.

The collision was fatal for the animal. Marine rescuers said the whale, identified as a minke whale, was found dead in shallow water outside the channel. The animal’s body is scheduled to be transported to a nearby state park on Monday for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Authorities urged shipowners and vacationers to stay at least 45 meters away from the carcass of the dead whale until the work is completed.

This is not the first such incident in the world this year. Earlier, off the coast of Chile, a humpback whale accidentally grabbed a kayaker in its mouth, who fortunately remained unharmed.

Watch the latest video at foxnews.com

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , Twitter , Telegram , and Instagram.

A boat collided with a 20-foot whale off the coast of New Jersey, fatally injuring the animal and throwing one of its passengers overboard.
