And while the meeting between US Special Representative Steve Witkoff and Russian President Vladimir Putin was described as “positive,” Washington has no intention of easing pressure on Moscow.

This information was also confirmed by Reuters, which cited a White House official as saying:
“Yes, the meeting was productive. But this does not mean that the United States will abandon the steps already prepared in response to the Kremlin’s actions.”

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that a final decision on the sanctions is expected by the end of the week. He also noted that he remains in close contact with Special Representative Steve Witkoff and is holding additional consultations with key diplomats in President Donald Trump’s administration.

The sanctions may target not only Russian companies but also foreign entities cooperating with Russia in critical sectors such as energy, finance, and the defense industry. This would represent the second major wave of sanctions pressure, following the June package, which focused on Russian banks and defense exports.

By the way, US President Donald Trump announced progress in negotiations with Russia to end the war in Ukraine. According to him, his special envoy Steve Witkoff met with Vladimir Putin, after which consultations with European allies began.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order imposing a 25% tariff on goods from India due to its oil imports from Russia. This is the first official move by Washington to punish third countries for cooperating with Russian energy.

It is worth adding that US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant confirmed that Washington will continue to impose sanctions to limit Russia’s energy export revenues.
