The Donald Trump administration plans to reconsider the tone of official criticism of states accused of systemic human rights violations, including Russia, which traditionally appears in US State Department reports as one of the worst performers.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The draft of the new edition of the annual report, according to American media, provides for a significant reduction in the amount of information about the Russian Federation. References to discrimination against LGBTIQ+ people, persecution of the opposition, restrictions on freedom of speech, and political repression disappear from the text. Sections on corruption and crimes related to gender rights violations have also been removed.<\/p>\n

State Department officials have already confirmed the change in format. According to them, the reports are being “reworked to be concise,” in accordance with “the minimum requirements established by law.” The main emphasis is on the general principles of freedom of expression, without detailing violations by authoritarian regimes.<\/p>\n

Previously, State Department reports were among the main international documents that documented the Kremlin’s repressive actions \u2014 in particular, the persecution of Navalny, the arrests of journalists, torture in prisons, and the suppression of protests.<\/p>\n

Human rights organizations have already expressed concern about the possible curtailment of international monitoring of the situation in Russia, which, they say, “plays into the hands of the Putin regime” and “reduces pressure on the state that continues armed aggression against Ukraine.”<\/p>\n

Recall, Pastor Mark Burns, spiritual advisor to US President Donald Trump, condemned the attacks by Russian troops on Kyiv, emphasizing that these strikes are war crimes.<\/a><\/p>\n
