This development significantly complicates the situation with the supply of weapons to Ukraine, especially against the backdrop of a possible upcoming meeting between President Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.

Despite Trump’s support for arms supplies through NATO, the Pentagon remains concerned about the depletion of key weapons stocks, including anti-missile systems, air defense systems, and artillery ammunition.

In July, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth suspended a large shipment of weapons to Ukraine, citing a memorandum from Deputy Defense Secretary Elbridge Colby that cast doubt on military aid to Kyiv. Trump later reversed the decision and pledged continued support.

However, the Colby Memorandum is still in effect and allows for the return of weapons purchased specifically for Ukraine back to US stockpiles, threatening to disrupt billions of dollars in arms supplies in the coming months.

The nearly decade-old Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) program, funded by the U.S. Congress and designed to procure weapons directly from domestic defense companies, is under scrutiny by the new restrictions, which cast doubt on the effectiveness of the program.

As a reminder, the US Department of Defense has signed a contract with Raytheon Technologies for $3.5 billion. The agreement provides for the production of AMRAAM aircraft missiles, as well as related equipment, which will be received by Ukraine and 18 other partner countries.

As reported, the United States has agreed with NATO and Ukraine on a new arms supply scheme: American weapons will arrive through the Alliance, with NATO fully covering their cost.

Later, it became known that the United States of America is preparing to transfer weapons to NATO allies worth about $10 billion — with the subsequent delivery of this equipment to Ukraine . The agreement, concluded by US President Donald Trump and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, provides for the transfer of the most modern weapons, including missiles, air defense systems and artillery ammunition.

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , Twitter , Telegram , and Instagram.

The US government has received new authority that allows the Department of Defense to return some of the military equipment and weapons intended for Ukraine back to its own arsenals.
