India has temporarily halted plans to buy US weapons and aircraft after the Trump administration imposed new tariffs.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported by Reuters, citing sources among Indian officials.<\/p>\n

In particular, Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh was supposed to visit Washington in the coming weeks to announce major defense contracts. However, the trip was canceled.<\/p>\n

The announced acquisitions included six Boeing P8I maritime reconnaissance aircraft and naval support systems for India, the sources said. Talks on Stryker<\/em> combat vehicles and Javelin<\/em> anti-tank missiles have also been suspended.<\/p>\n

One of the officials explained that the purchases could happen later, when India has a clear understanding of the new tariffs and the future course of the bilateral relations. At the same time, it is noted that there have been no written instructions to completely curtail the negotiations, so the decisions may be revised.<\/p>\n

According to the agency\u2019s sources, there has been no progress in the negotiations so far.<\/p>\n

Recall that US President Donald Trump announced the introduction of new tariffs for India<\/a> : from August 1, the country must pay 25%. He explained that India buys most of its military equipment from Russia and, together with China, is one of the largest consumers of Russian energy.<\/p>\n

It should be added that Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that India would be able to meet its oil needs from alternative sources<\/a> if Russian supplies were cut off due to US sanctions.<\/p>\n

Earlier it became known that China refused to comply with Washington’s ultimatum and said that it would continue to import oil from Russia and Iran, despite the threat of 100% duties from the United States<\/a> .<\/p>\n
