Alexander Lukashenko stated that he allegedly does not intend to run for the post of President of Belarus again.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He said this in an interview with Time, as quoted by<\/a> Belt.<\/p>\n

“No, I’m not planning it now, I’m not planning it anymore. I’m the only one who can afford it somewhere for myself… If Trump is 80 soon and he looks decent…” Lukashenko said, hinting that he still doesn’t rule out a return, despite his stated plans.<\/p>\n

He also claimed that before the last elections he seemed ready not to put forward his candidacy, but allegedly people said \u201cno\u201d and he had to stay.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lukashenko assured that he is not preparing his third son Nikolai as a “successor” and called such an assumption “insulting to the guy.” At the same time, he acknowledged that the future president of Belarus may pursue a different policy, but called for avoiding a “revolutionary break”:<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd if he convinces society that it is necessary to go to some other state – for God’s sake.\u201d<\/p>\n

Let us recall that Lukashenko has been in power since 1994. His re-election for a sixth term in 2020 provoked mass protests that were brutally suppressed by the regime. The event does not recognize these elections as legitimate.<\/p>\n

Let us recall that the Belarusian economy is slowing down due to integration with Russia<\/a> . In 2025, Belarus’ GDP growth decreased compared to last year.<\/p>\n
