In addition to territorial concessions and the lifting of sanctions against Russia, other issues will be discussed, so Ukraine should outline clear “red lines” that should not be crossed under any circumstances.

This opinion was expressed on the air of “Pryamoy” by Vadym Denysenko, head of the analytical center “Dilova Stolytsia”.

“At the moment, there is no way to say that there is any final plan for what Trump and Putin can agree on. That is, it is not in vain that a pause was taken until the 15th. A number of issues will be discussed, and not only in bilateral relations between the US and the Russian Federation, but Ukraine and the European Union will also be involved. Perhaps China on the side of the Russian Federation, but I very much doubt it,” Denisenko noted.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfkPQhEATj4

Trump-Putin Meeting: Reasons to Skip That Scenic Trip to Alaska

He believes that as a result of the negotiations, if they are effective, they will clearly indicate that Ukraine will not join NATO in the foreseeable future, but regarding borders they will take a position very similar to how the US and Europe behaved towards Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia after 1945.

“That is, in essence, they will consider that the occupied territories are de facto Russian, and de jure they remain Ukrainian. But the clear position that Trump voiced is that the front line is the demarcation line. That is, in essence, the Americans will insist on such a formulation. To say that tomorrow they will say that Ukraine must withdraw from Kherson or Zaporizhia is absolute nonsense,” explains Denysenko.

At the same time, he is convinced that the key issue for the US and Russia in these negotiations will not be Ukrainian borders, but the issue of lifting sanctions. “Now they are looking for some quasi-formula for lifting these sanctions. And that is where most of the discussions will be held. It is quite difficult to say what they will or will not agree on,” he added.

The political scientist separately emphasized that Ukraine should clearly outline its red lines on the eve of the negotiations and communicate them not only to Western allies, but also to Ukrainian society.

“First, we cannot agree to any legal formalization of the occupied territories by the Russians. Second, it is extremely important for us to ensure that we are not forced to once again recognize that we are a neutral country… Third, we under no circumstances have the right to agree to Russian as a second state language… We also cannot agree to be banned from supplying weapons and banned from producing certain things at our military-industrial plants,” Vadym Denysenko noted.

Not peace, but “split”: what the Kremlin expects from the meeting between Putin and Trump

Recall that the White House does not exclude the presence of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Alaska during the meeting of the leaders of the United States and Russia. At the same time, US Vice President J.D. Vance said that a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia should be based on the current front line . Taking the current line of combat contact, the US will try to find a negotiated solution, the official added.

Meanwhile, on the eve of the scheduled meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, the leaders of leading European countries issued a joint statement in which they emphasized Ukraine’s inviolable right to independently determine its future.

Bloomberg previously reported that the US and Russia are preparing an agreement to end the war, which would formally consolidate Russian control over the occupied territories . Putin, in particular, demands that Ukraine hand over the entire eastern part of Donbas and Crimea to Russia. This would force Volodymyr Zelensky to order the withdrawal of troops from the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, which are under Kyiv’s control.

Moreover, according to The Wall Street Journal, US President Donald Trump may recognize Russian control over part of the Ukrainian regions that are currently under occupation. According to the terms being discussed by officials, Russia will undertake to stop the offensive in the Kherson and Zaporizhia regions along the contact line. At the same time, it is not yet known whether the Russian army is ready to give up the occupied territories.

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , Twitter , Telegram , and Instagram .

There is currently no final plan for the talks between the US and Russian presidents in Alaska.
