In France, the largest nuclear power plant, Gravelines, has suspended operations due to a jellyfish invasion into the cooling system.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported<\/a> by EDF.<\/p>\n

Four of the plant’s six power units were shut down on August 10 and 11 after a large number of jellyfish entered the cooling system. The reactors were shut down between 23:00 and 00:00 on Sunday night, and another unit at 06:20 on Monday.<\/p>\n

Two more power units were undergoing scheduled maintenance and were not operating at the time of the jellyfish “attack”.<\/p>\n

EDF explained that a large number of jellyfish blocked the filter drums of the pumping stations located in the non-nuclear part of the complex.<\/p>\n

It is noted that the incident did not pose a threat to people, the environment, or the safety of the nuclear power plant. Diagnostics and technical work are currently underway to restart the power units.<\/p>\n

The Gravelin NPP is one of the largest in Europe after the Zaporizhzhia NPP, providing a significant part of the region’s electricity supply.<\/p>\n
