Global security begins with Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko said in his video address. On the eve of the announced talks in Alaska, the fifth President called for joining efforts within the state to jointly protect national interests.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“This week could be one of the decisive ones in matters of war and peace. On Friday, August 15, Alaska will talk about Russia’s war against Ukraine and – finally – about a possible ceasefire. And right now it is extremely important to remind: we are not an object of bargaining, we are an independent, sovereign state that paid the highest price for its right to be free. The priority of the “European Solidarity” team remains unchanged – the victory of Ukraine through maximum support of the Armed Forces. But we also understand: the guns can fall silent only when diplomats start talking. And diplomacy is another front where you need to be able to win,” Poroshenko said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFirst. We support a complete and unconditional ceasefire along the existing contact line. Negotiations require silence. If this is not possible immediately, we are considering an intermediate, less desirable option: a ceasefire in the air and at sea now, but with a guaranteed shortest and very concise transition to a regime of complete silence. Without interruptions. Second. A ceasefire cannot be conditioned by the loss of Ukrainian territories. Ukraine does not trade its lands. Then it is not a \u201cpeace agreement\u201d, but a dangerous precedent if someone tries to redraw the borders by force. Our borders are enshrined in the Ukrainian Constitution and are internationally recognized,\u201d the fifth President emphasized.<\/span><\/p>\n

He also once again recalled the inviolability of the principle of \u201cNothing about Ukraine without Ukraine\u201d, introduced since 2014: \u201cthis means our mandatory presence at any negotiating table. No one has the right to decide our fate behind our backs, and any decisions concerning Ukrainian sovereignty, territorial integrity and security should be made only with the participation of Ukraine. Similarly, nothing about the security of Europe without Europe. Ukraine is part of the European security system. The fate of the continent cannot be decided in negotiations between two states, no matter how influential they may be, without our voice, without the voice of our European partners.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

“To avoid the mistakes of the past, the Ukrainian delegation must be strengthened by the best diplomats and specialists who have the trust of Ukrainian society and the trust of our partners. Artificial restrictions on parliamentary diplomacy must be removed so that a powerful and unified Ukrainian voice can finally be heard in conversations with Congress, the US administration, business and the American public,” Poroshenko noted.<\/span><\/p>\n

The opposition leader emphasized: the more complex and painful the decisions, the more the authorities are obliged to speak honestly with society.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cDirectives for negotiations should be discussed in parliament, at least at the level of faction leaders, and not be adopted only in the silence of the offices of Bankova. Unity is born not in conditions of persecution of the opposition, journalists or activists, but in conditions of trust and transparency. Ukrainians have the right to know the truth – about the situation at the front, about the state of mobilization, about the economy, about defense production, about the conditions of peace and international support. The truth – and not the soothing propaganda videos of the \u201cUnited Marathon\u201d, – Poroshenko noted.<\/span><\/p>\n

He once again called for the creation of a coalition of national unity in parliament: \u201cinstead of moving beds, form a government of national salvation. It must act very quickly: block corruption schemes, stop looting and waste. Direct every hryvnia to the front and directly to the brigades, including at the expense of personal income tax funds paid by the military. Build fortifications at the front and shelters in the rear. Implement NATO standards for protecting the lives of soldiers. And finally, put the economy on military rails. We must fulfill the conditions that will open the door to full financial support from our partners \u2014 complete the judicial reform, clean up the prosecutor’s office. Reboot the State Bureau of Investigation, getting rid of the \u201ctailoring\u201d forever,\u201d Petro Poroshenko assured.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe decisions that will be made in the near future will determine the fate not only of Ukraine, but also the future of the entire international security system. We are ready to speak. To speak so that the world hears: Ukraine will not break, will not sell its sovereignty and will never trade its freedom. And no matter what the meeting place is called \u2014 London or Paris, Alaska or even Antarctica \u2014 we are there by the will of the people who are fighting to win. Solving the challenges of global stability begins here, with Ukraine. As long as the Russian war against Ukraine continues, it is impossible to imagine a return to global peace, security and stability,\u201d the fifth President summed up.<\/span><\/p>\n
