Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban explained why he did not join the joint statement of the leaders of the European Union countries in support of Ukraine, and also called for a separate EU summit with Russia.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He wrote<\/a> about this on his social network account X.<\/p>\n

According to Orb\u00e1n, the idea of adopting the statement came just a few days before the meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. He believes that such a move looks strange, since none of the European leaders will participate in this summit.<\/p>\n

“Before the liberal mainstream choir plays its favorite tune about ‘Putin’s puppet’ again, I decided to explain why I cannot support this statement on behalf of Hungary,” Orb\u00e1n said.<\/p>\n

The Hungarian Prime Minister believes that the EU is trying to set conditions for an event to which it is not even invited. This position, in his opinion, only complicates the situation.<\/p>\n

“The only thing that can make it worse is trying to tell others how to act,” he added.<\/p>\n

As an alternative, Orban proposed convening an EU-Russia summit along the lines of the dialogue between Washington and Moscow.<\/p>\n

“Let’s give peace a chance,” he concluded.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, European leaders issued a joint statement in support of Ukraine ahead of Donald Trump’s planned meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin<\/a> . 26 out of 27 EU leaders \u2014 with the exception of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban \u2014 made their position public.<\/p>\n

As reported, Trump said that on Friday, August 15, he will travel to Russia, where he plans to meet with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin.<\/a><\/p>\n
