Russia’s conflict with Belarus is escalating due to the oversaturation of the domestic market with imported cement. The largest Russian producers are recording a drop in sales and preparing to reduce production.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported by<\/a> the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine.<\/p>\n

According to intelligence, starting October 1, the Russian industrial holding company Tsemros, which unites 16 cement plants and over 30 quarries in 13 regions of the Russian Federation, will switch to a four-day work week. The reason is a surplus of building materials amid a collapse in demand.<\/p>\n

The holding company, owned by oligarch Oleg Deripaska, who is close to the Kremlin, is already proposing to impose restrictions on cement imports and anti-dumping duties for a period of five years.<\/p>\n

According to the SZR, the greatest pressure on the market is exerted by Belarusian cement, which enters the Russian market in large volumes, displacing the products of local producers. In addition, there are also supplies from Kazakhstan, Iran, China and Vietnam.<\/p>\n

“In five years, cement imports into Russia have almost tripled, while domestic consumption has grown by less than 16%,” the intelligence report says.<\/p>\n

Currently, the volume of imported cement has already equaled the annual production of several Russian plants, which is why companies are forced to stop individual production lines.<\/p>\n

Manufacturers are proposing to limit imports to 1.5 million tons per year, which they estimate will allow an additional 2 million tons to be loaded into local capacities. If this is not done, the Russian cement market could collapse by 10\u201315% compared to last year, when demand was about 67 million tons.<\/p>\n
