Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Berlin on August 13 for talks with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and a video conference with U.S. President Donald Trump and European leaders. The main goal is to coordinate a common position ahead of the planned August 15 meeting between Trump and Putin in Alaska.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is noted that Zelenskyy has a busy program of negotiations ahead of him. In the German capital, he was met by high-ranking officials, including Ukraine’s Ambassador to Germany Oleksiy Makeyev.<\/p>\n

According to the Office of the President, the main event of the visit will be Zelensky’s meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. After the talks, both leaders will join a multilateral video conference, which will include US President Donald Trump, a number of European heads of state and government, as well as NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.<\/p>\n

According to BILD<\/a> , Merz specifically interrupted his summer vacation to take part in these negotiations. The purpose of the online meeting is to prepare for the meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, which is scheduled for August 15 in Alaska. European leaders are seeking to agree on a common strategy for responding to potential political agreements between the United States and Russia in order to avoid decisions that could harm the interests of Ukraine and European security.<\/p>\n

The German government confirmed that the video conference will take place in several rounds, during which issues of Russia’s territorial claims, possible security guarantees, and coordination of actions in the event of a change in the US position on the war in Ukraine will be discussed.<\/p>\n

Also, as part of the visit, Zelensky will participate in an online meeting of the countries of the so-called “coalition of the willing”, where it is planned to consider further steps in military and political support for Ukraine.<\/p>\n

According to a German government spokesman, the event is scheduled for August 13 at 12:00 GMT (15:00 Kyiv time), with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz leading the meeting. After the discussion, Trump and US Vice President J.D. Vance are expected to hold a separate online meeting with European leaders at 13:00 GMT (16:00 Kyiv time), followed by an online meeting of the “Coalition of the Willing” at 14:30 GMT (17:30 Kyiv time).<\/p>\n

Senior EU officials are expressing concerns that Trump’s talks with Putin could end in a deal that is disadvantageous to Europe and Ukraine. And it is assumed that Trump could reach an agreement with Putin without the participation of Ukraine or Europe, which would create problems in relations with Kyiv and the EU.<\/p>\n
