The British military leadership has decided to abandon the idea of creating a 30,000-strong peacekeeping contingent to protect Ukrainian ports and cities. Instead, a more “realistic” strategy is being introduced – air patrols of western Ukraine, training Ukrainian defenders, and demining the Black Sea.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was stated by<\/a> British Prime Minister Keir Starmer after an online meeting with Presidents Trump and Zelensky, The Times reports.<\/p>\n

He also assured: The West is ready to impose new “tough sanctions” to force Russia to adhere to a peaceful transition.<\/p>\n

The idea of a large military presence has not found widespread support among European allies, who consider it too risky. In particular, many EU countries are not ready to send enough troops to truly deter an aggressor.<\/p>\n

Instead, Britain is proposing an alternative coalition strategy: the creation of a \u201csupport force\u201d to ensure Ukraine\u2019s security after a ceasefire. The plan focuses on air patrols (such as Typhoon or F-35 fighter jets), expert training, logistical support, and mine clearance of sea lanes.<\/p>\n

Starmer stressed that international borders cannot be changed by force. He also highlighted progress in the negotiations and expressed the readiness of Britain and other allies to join a “coalition of the willing” to ensure that any agreement is implemented.<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister added that the London government is working on new packages of sanctions – strengthened, large-scale, and capable of putting real pressure on Moscow if peace is violated.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, the United Kingdom and the European Union countries have suspended initiatives to deploy their own military units in Ukraine<\/a> . This step is related to the suspension of US peace talks and Washington’s unwillingness to provide security guarantees for European military personnel.<\/p>\n

As reported, European countries are beginning to abandon the idea of sending their troops to Ukraine as peacekeepers.<\/a><\/p>\n
