In July, Russia exported more than 25 million tons of oil and petroleum products by sea. More than half of this volume was transported by tankers from G7+ countries.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported<\/a> by the Center for Energy and Clean Air Research.<\/p>\n

Since January, the G7+ share of oil shipments from Russia has increased to 55%. Such tankers provided 42% of shipments in July, compared to 17% in January. The “shadow fleet” provided 58% of shipments in July, while in January it accounted for 83%.<\/p>\n

CREA also notes a smaller participation of the “shadow Russian fleet” in ship-to-ship transhipment in EU waters. The majority of such transhipment was carried out by G7+ tankers.<\/p>\n

“The frequent imposition of sanctions on Russian “shadow” vessels has led to the return of Russian oil to tankers owned or insured in G7+ countries. However, Russian “shadow” tankers still play an important role in the transportation of Russian crude oil,” the research center notes.<\/p>\n

In addition, many sanctioned vessels continue to supply oil around the world, with EU and UK sanctions often being violated.<\/p>\n

It is worth noting that the Group of Seven Plus is an intergovernmental voluntary organization that brings together countries that are either facing active conflict or have recent experience of conflict and instability. It includes 20 member countries from Africa, the Asia-Pacific region, the Middle East and the Caribbean.<\/p>\n

It was previously reported that the administration of US President Donald Trump is considering a new package of sanctions against Russia’s “shadow fleet” of oil tankers<\/a> .<\/p>\n

It is worth noting that Panama has tightened its rules for registering commercial vessels, putting pressure on the Russian \u201cshadow fleet\u201d used to transport Russian oil to circumvent sanctions<\/a> .<\/p>\n
