US President Donald Trump said after talks with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Alaska that the summit was constructive and gave reason for optimism. He announced consultations with NATO and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, but stressed that no final agreements have been reached yet.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The closed-door talks in Anchorage were the first face-to-face meeting between Trump and Putin since the US president returned to the White House. Commenting on the results, Trump noted that the parties were close to making progress, but had not yet reached the end point.<\/p>\n

“We didn’t get there, but we have a very good chance of getting there,” the US president said.<\/p>\n

He explained that the next step would be calls to allies and partners.<\/p>\n

“I’ll be calling NATO in a little while. I’ll be calling various people that I think are appropriate. And I’ll certainly call President Zelensky and tell him about today’s meeting. Ultimately, it’s up to them,” the US president said.<\/p>\n

Trump emphasized that Ukraine’s role in implementing potential agreements is key, as it is Kyiv that will have to determine its position after consultations.<\/p>\n

He separately commented on his personal relationship with Putin.<\/p>\n

“We’ve always had a fantastic relationship with President Putin, but we’ve been hampered by the ‘Russia, Russia, Russia’ mystification. I made it a little difficult, but he understood that,” Trump said.<\/p>\n

The American leader refrained from disclosing details of the discussions, emphasizing that the negotiation process requires maintaining confidentiality and diplomatic caution.<\/p>\n
