Thanks to competitive prices, Chinese refineries are increasing supplies of Urals from the Baltic and Black Seas.

Reuters reports this.

According to analysts, in August, supplies of Russian Urals oil from the Black and Baltic Seas to China almost doubled to 75,000 barrels per day. This figure usually remains at 40,000 barrels. In contrast, exports to India fell sharply, from 1.18 million barrels per day to 400,000.

“Chinese refineries currently have an advantage over Indian ones,” a representative of Energy Aspects Ltd. commented on the situation. According to him, Urals prices remain attractive compared to oil from the Middle East.

Washington, meanwhile, is putting pressure on New Delhi: the US has raised import tariffs on India as part of a sanctions policy aimed at reducing financial flows to Russia. However, similar measures have not been introduced against China due to the current trade truce between Washington and Beijing.

Former US President Donald Trump recently said he had no plans to impose new restrictions on China for buying Russian oil, citing talks with Vladimir Putin to end the war in Ukraine. At the same time, White House adviser Peter Navarro criticized India for its “opportunistic” policies, while acknowledging that excessive pressure on China could hurt the US itself.

“Trump won’t do anything he’s not sure about,” said Mukesh Sahdev, head of commodities markets at Rystad Energy. “He pushed with India and got results. But the pressure on China may not work.”

Traders estimate that Chinese companies have already contracted 10-15 Urals shipments for October and November. If prices remain attractive, volumes could increase even further.

Recall that after India stopped purchasing Russian oil, at least four Russian tankers remained parked near the country’s coast.

As reported, Russia has been reducing seaborne oil exports for the third week in a row, but the current losses remain insignificant.

In addition, Indian refineries are awaiting government orders regarding purchases of Russian oil after the US imposed additional 25 percent duties on imports from India.

It should be noted that in July, Russia exported over 25 million tons of oil and petroleum products by sea . More than half of this volume was transported by tankers from G7+ countries.

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , Twitter , Telegram , and Instagram .

China has stepped up imports of Russian oil, seizing a window of opportunity left after Indian demand waned due to US pressure.
