The Center for Countering Disinformation has refuted another Russian propaganda fake about the alleged 1.7 million dead and missing Ukrainian military personnel. Such figures are absurd, as the size of the Ukrainian army has never even reached one million.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported by<\/a> the Center for Countering Disinformation.<\/p>\n

The institution emphasized that the information about “1.7 million dead and missing Ukrainian servicemen” is a fabrication spread by Kremlin-controlled propaganda resources.<\/p>\n

According to their claims, Russian hackers allegedly hacked the database of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and obtained information about the alleged large-scale losses of the Ukrainian army. However, the Central Military Commission explained that such statements are absolutely absurd, because even in all the years of independence, Ukraine has never had an army of 1.7 million people<\/strong> .<\/p>\n

As of January 2025, the size of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky, was 880,000 military personnel. This is almost half the number that Russian propagandists are trying to promote.<\/p>\n

In addition, the Ukrainian authorities have repeatedly emphasized that it is Russia that is suffering much greater losses at the front. In particular, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as of August 20, 2025, the Russian army has lost 1,072,700 people killed and wounded since the start of the full-scale invasion. Thus, the real figures are radically different from the fabricated messages of the Kremlin.<\/p>\n

The Central Military Commission emphasized that the main goal of spreading such fakes is to demoralize Ukrainian society, create the illusion of “exhaustion and inefficiency” of the Armed Forces, as well as an attempt to weaken support for Ukraine in the international arena.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, as of the morning of August 20, Russia has lost about 1,072,700 military personnel<\/a> since the start of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Over the course of the day, the enemy’s losses in manpower reached 920 people.<\/p>\n
