At a meeting of military leaders chaired by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, US Deputy Secretary of Defense Elbridge Colby, he informed European allies: US participation in Ukraine’s security guarantees should be limited, and the key role is assigned to Europe.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to one diplomat at the meeting, “of course, this is a task for Europe; the US is not making any commitments.”<\/p>\n

Another Politico interlocutor noted: this US position undermines the previous progress in creating effective security guarantees for Ukraine, achieved over several months of work.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, on August 21, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will meet with national security advisors of partner countries to discuss the framework of future security guarantees for Ukraine.<\/a><\/p>\n

As reported, US President Donald Trump, together with the leaders of European countries, agreed to create a special working group that will prepare a draft of security guarantees for Ukraine. This intergovernmental format will be headed by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.<\/a><\/p>\n
