Dozens of generations fought for it. We had been moving towards this Independence for a thousand years. And on that day, August 24, 1991, we got a chance. Not everyone understood how important it was. For some, it was a day off, a stage on the Maidan, songs and poems. But then a new history of Ukraine began,&#8221; the fifth President recalled. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\ud83c\uddfa\ud83c\udde6CONGRATULATIONS TO PETRO POROSHENKO ON THE 34TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE RESTORATION OF UKRAINE'S INDEPENDENCE\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/FJ7-Gtm_SmQ?feature=oembed\" width=\"678\" height=\"381\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p> &#8220;In 2004, there was the first exam. And we composed it. In 2014, the second. And then the whole country stood together to defend dignity and independence. And today we are taking the third. And this time there will be no rewriting,&#8221; Poroshenko notes.<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;We are paying a very high price. For the right to speak our own language. For the right to live in our own home. For the right to be ourselves. We have already taken steps that seemed impossible. But the hardest path is still ahead. And we must go through it for those who did not return from the battle,&#8221; notes Petro Poroshenko.<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;We need to preserve everything that made us stronger: the determination of the Orange Revolution. The dignity of the Maidan. The fearlessness of the warriors of 2014. And the Independence that we defended on February 24,&#8221; says the opposition leader.<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;Our tomorrow is being built today. Its foundations are a strong Army. Native language. Faith in God and in yourself. The European Union and NATO. I dream that in a few years we will talk not about the types of missiles and martyrs flying over our Ukrainian cities. But about civilian low-cost airlines, which, like in 2017, will finally fly to Vienna for a cup of coffee. So that the problems of the European Union become ours, and we solve them together. So that, finally, in all Ukrainian homes, in all apartments we can hear: &#8220;Mom, I&#8217;m home,&#8221; Poroshenko said.<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;Happy Independence Day!
