A tragedy has occurred in North Carolina: 23-year-old Ukrainian woman Iryna Zarutska, who was seeking safety from war in the United States, was stabbed to death at a light rail station. The attacker turned out to be a homeless repeat offender known to police for a number of previous crimes.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is noted that on Friday evening at the East\/West Boulevard station in the South End area of Charlotte, 23-year-old Iryna suffered multiple stab wounds and died at the scene. <\/p>\n

According to police, the girl died at 9:55 p.m. before she could receive medical attention. Eyewitnesses saw the platform surrounded by law enforcement officers and the tram stopped on the tracks.<\/p>\n

Law enforcement officers quickly arrested 34-year-old DeCarlos Brown, a homeless man with a long criminal history. Since 2011, he has been repeatedly prosecuted for theft, armed robbery and threats. Most recently, he was accused of abusing the 911 emergency call system. It is also known that he suffered from mental problems, claiming an “artificial material in his body” that allegedly controlled his actions. <\/p>\n

Iryna’s relatives said she came to the United States in search of safety and a new future. Her aunt Valeria organized a GoFundMe fundraiser to help the family cope with the loss.<\/p>\n

“Her life was cut short too soon… This is an irreparable loss for the family,” the statement says.<\/p>\n

The death of a young Ukrainian woman has shaken the local community. Charlotte City Council members have called for immediate action to improve safety at public transportation stations.<\/p>\n

According to them, such incidents not only undermine passenger trust, but also call into question infrastructure projects financed by taxes.<\/p>\n
