Hungarian Foreign Minister P\u00e9ter Szijj\u00e1rt\u00f3 has once again announced the possible cessation of energy supplies to Ukraine. At the same time, he stressed that Budapest is refraining from such a step allegedly out of “pity for Ukrainian children.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

He told this in an interview with Harcosok \u00f3r\u00e1ja<\/a> .<\/p>\n

According to Szijj\u00e1rt\u00f3, it accounts for 30% to 40% of Ukrainian imports. Szijj\u00e1rt\u00f3 wondered what the consequences of cutting off such a share of energy supply would be for the country, hinting at Budapest’s willingness to use this lever.<\/p>\n

At the same time, he added that energy cooperation allegedly does not concern the Ukrainian government or president, but directly affects the lives of ordinary people.<\/p>\n

“We don’t want a Ukrainian apartment where small children live to be without heating, because these small children cannot be responsible for how a former actor, and now their president, behaves,” the minister said.<\/p>\n

These threats came against the backdrop of recent attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Russian energy infrastructure. In particular, on August 13 and 18, Ukrainian drones hit the Druzhba oil pipeline, causing fires and forcing Russia to temporarily stop pumping oil. This became one of the factors aggravating relations between Kyiv and Budapest, which traditionally takes a pro-Russian position in European politics.<\/p>\n
