An incident involving the crash and explosion of a drone in the Elva rural municipality of Tartu County was recorded in Estonia. According to police, the wreckage belonged to a strike drone with explosives, which could have been Ukrainian and was heading towards Russia. Tallinn links the incident to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and emphasizes the need to strengthen air defense systems.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is noted that the incident occurred on Monday, August 25: a local farmer in Elva parish, Tartu county, found the remains of a drone that had exploded in a field. The detonation of the explosives created a crater at the site, but no one was injured.<\/p>\n

According to preliminary police findings, the drone could have belonged to Ukraine and was targeting Russian targets. Law enforcement officials believe that the Russians knocked it off course with electronic warfare, causing it to deviate and enter Estonian airspace. However, other versions are not ruled out, in particular, that the drone could have entered from Latvia or Russia.<\/p>\n

The Director General of the Estonian Security Police Department stressed that the incident is a direct consequence of Russia’s continued war against Ukraine.<\/p>\n

“This proves once again that our security is closely linked to the war that Russia is waging,” he said.<\/p>\n

The situation has sparked a response at the highest level. Estonian President Alar Karis held an emergency meeting with Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur, Interior Minister Igor Taro, and Security Police Director General Margo Palloson.<\/p>\n

In his statement, Karis called for the acceleration of the creation of a “drone wall” and a multi-level air defense system. According to him, projects that were planned for several years now require immediate implementation.<\/p>\n

“The focus of countering drones is no longer limited to the eastern border. This task is much broader and requires close cooperation between law enforcement agencies. State defense must be unified and comprehensive,” Karis emphasized.<\/p>\n

At the same time, according to Bloomberg<\/a> , Estonia is blaming Russian jamming for the explosion of a drone on its territory.<\/p>\n

“An armed drone that crashed in Estonia is likely a Ukrainian drone that went off course due to Russian electronic jamming in the Baltic region, officials in Tallinn have said,” the journalists claim.<\/p>\n
