Russia, despite official statements about an alliance with Tehran, actually framed Iran in a war with Israel by passing on intelligence about Iranian air defenses. The scandal showed that economic rapprochement between the two countries does not guarantee political loyalty, and the strategic alliance turned out to be more of an illusion than a reality.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is noted that relations between Russia and Iran, which outwardly look like a close partnership, in reality remain extremely tense and riddled with mutual distrust. Despite large-scale investments and economic agreements, the geopolitical interests of Moscow and Tehran often come into open conflict.<\/p>\n

A striking example was the situation in June 2025, when, during the 12-day conflict between Iran and Israel, Seyyed Mohammad Sadr, a member of Iran’s Political Expediency Council, accused Russia of treason.<\/p>\n

According to him, Moscow provided Israel with information about the location of Iranian air defense systems. This, according to the Iranian politician, not only helped Israel carry out precise strikes, but also called into question the very existence of the strategic partnership.<\/p>\n

“Russia condemned Israel’s attack on Iran only in words, but in fact facilitated it,” Sadr said, emphasizing the futility of calculations to support Moscow.<\/p>\n

After the start of a full-scale war against Ukraine, Russia actively invested in Iran, trying to compensate for the loss of Western markets and allies. In 2024, the Russian Federation became the largest foreign investor in the Islamic Republic. In particular, in 2023, the volume of investments from Moscow reached $ 2.7 billion, and the Kremlin promised to invest another $ 8 billion in the oil and gas sector.<\/p>\n

A Russian nuclear power plant is operating in Bushehr, with a second phase under construction, as well as the Sirik TPP in Hormozgan province. Russia is also financing the construction of the Rasht-Astara railway and planning a gas pipeline through Azerbaijan.<\/p>\n

However, the intelligence incident was a serious blow to trust. Ambitious projects were put at risk, and Moscow risks losing not only Iran as a partner, but also important positions in the Middle East.<\/p>\n

Analysts note that the historical distrust between the two regimes is only worsening, and their so-called alliance is turning out to be more of a profitable decoration than a real strategic alliance.<\/p>\n

By the way, the Iranian parliament officially approved the strategic partnership agreement with Russia<\/a> , which was signed by the presidents of the two countries on January 17, 2025 in Moscow.<\/p>\n

Recall that in April, Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin ratified the strategic partnership agreement between Russia and Iran.<\/a><\/p>\n
