Azerbaijani leader Ilham Aliyev said that in 1920 the Russian army invaded and occupied Azerbaijan.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He said<\/a> this during an interview with Al Arabiya TV channel.<\/p>\n

Aliyev recalled the events in Azerbaijan after the collapse of the Russian Empire in 1917.<\/p>\n

“The Bolsheviks, who carried out the 1917 revolution, deceived the people. We created our own state. But the Bolsheviks took it away from us. In April 1920, the Russian army invaded Azerbaijan and occupied it,” Aliyev said.<\/p>\n

He also admitted that relations between Russia and Azerbaijan have significantly “deteriorated.”<\/p>\n

“However, Aliyev noted that Azerbaijan is not responsible for the deterioration of relations. After all, Baku always responds constructively and legally. He also added that Azerbaijan will never recognize any signs or manifestations of aggression or disrespect towards us.<\/p>\n

In addition, Aliyev mentioned historical facts and relations with Russia in the context of the conflict with Armenia.<\/p>\n

“The cause of the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia over the Nagorno-Karabakh region was the decision of the Soviet authorities to divide the disputed territories of Zangezur, Nagorno-Karabakh, and Nakhichevan between Armenia and Azerbaijan back in 1921,” Aliyev said.<\/p>\n

He added that Zangezur became part of Armenia, and Nagorno-Karabakh became part of Azerbaijan with the rights of autonomy.<\/p>\n

Earlier, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev ordered preparations for war and stated that the country is ready to enter battle at any moment, and the security of the state is ensured by the people and the Armed Forces<\/a> .<\/p>\n

Recall, Azerbaijan may lift the embargo<\/a> on arms supplies to Ukraine.<\/p>\n
