Washington has approved the possibility of supplying Ukraine with new high-tech Extended Range Attack Munition (ERAM) missiles \u2014 their range could reach 450 km. As noted, the missiles could begin arriving by the end of this year.<\/strong><\/p>\n

CNN learned<\/a> about this from an unnamed source.<\/p>\n

The announcement of the sale of this weaponry for $825 million was made on August 28, amid intensified Russian attacks on Kyiv, which again led to the deaths of civilians.<\/p>\n

According to the data, this involves the potential transfer of up to 3,350 ERAM missiles and the same number of GPS\/INS systems for precise navigation. Although the final decision on the terms of use of this weaponry has not yet been made public, the United States does not rule out that it will become a new factor in deterring the aggressor.<\/p>\n

Washington emphasizes that this sale “conforms to the national and foreign policy interests of the United States” and contributes to “strengthening the security of a partner who is a key factor in stability in Europe.”<\/p>\n

Financing for the purchase will be partially provided by Denmark, the Netherlands, and Norway, as well as the United States through the Foreign Military Financing (FMF) program, a mechanism for direct military assistance to allied states.<\/p>\n

It is not yet officially announced whether restrictions will be imposed on the use of missiles \u2014 in particular, on strikes on Russian territory. But even the fact of such a sale could change the strategic situation on the front.<\/p>\n

What is known about ERAM missiles?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The ERAM program is not one specific missile, but a large-scale project that is developing at least two types of long-range weapons aimed at high-precision strikes at long distances.<\/p>\n

RAACM by CoAspire<\/strong>
This is a new generation missile, already undergoing testing and being created using 3D printing. It is considered a prime candidate for delivery to Ukraine. The RAACM has a range of up to 400 km, flies at a speed of approximately Mach 0.6, and is equipped with a high-precision guidance system.<\/p>\n

Rusty Dagger by Zone 5 Technologies<\/strong>
The second development within the ERAM. According to the developers, its theoretical range can reach 900 km, but without a warhead. It also participates in the Enterprise Test Vehicle (ETV) program for the US Air Force.<\/p>\n

Both projects are being developed by Zone 5 Technologies and CoAspire. Missiles of this class have a mass of about 227 kg and a small warhead, which makes them lighter and cheaper to manufacture. The average estimated cost of one missile is about $ 246 thousand, which is considered a reasonable price for weapons with such a range.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, the United States State Department has approved the possible export of weapons to Ukraine, the total value of which is estimated at approximately $825 million.<\/a><\/p>\n
