Today, August 30, People’s Deputy, former Speaker of Parliament, former Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Andriy Parubiy was killed in Lviv. Colleagues and friends reacted to his murder, calling it cynical and cruel.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Below we publish the full text of the official statement of European Solidarity.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“European Solidarity” learned with deep shock and pain about the tragic event – the cruel, cynical, vile murder of the people’s deputy of Ukraine from the “EU” faction, former Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, former Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Andriy Parubiy. Our colleague, friend, brother.<\/p>\n

This shameful crime took place in Lviv, a city that has become one of the symbols of the Ukrainian people’s struggle for freedom and democracy. We believe that the murder of Andriy Parubiy is not a random crime, but has the characteristics of political terror directed against Ukrainian statehood.<\/p>\n

Andriy Parubiy was one of the officials of modern Ukraine. He stood at the sources of the Orange Revolution and the Revolution of Dignity, led the Maidan self-defense units, and in March 2014 took direct part in the creation of the new National Guard and Defense Forces of Ukraine. As Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, he always defended the independence, subjectivity and authority of our parliament.<\/p>\n

His political activity was inextricably linked with defending the democratic path of Ukraine, European values and strengthening the defense capability of our state. That is why we do not exclude that behind this brutal murder is the Russian Federation \u2013 a terrorist state waging an aggressive war against Ukraine and using methods of political assassinations and sabotage to destabilize Ukrainian society.<\/p>\n

For the European Solidarity team, this is not just an irreparable loss. It is a torn out heart, a piece of our soul.<\/p>\n

Andriy Parubiy is the son and grandson of Ukrainian dissidents and political prisoners. His life was dedicated to Ukraine. From the Revolution on Granite to the Orange Maidan, from the Revolution of Dignity to the struggle in the Verkhovna Rada, he always stood at the forefront of defending Ukrainian statehood, language, church, and army.<\/p>\n

Andriy was fiercely opposed to the ratification of the Kharkiv agreements, blocking this vote. Then Yanukovych’s gang opened a criminal case against Parubiy and threatened him with arrest.<\/p>\n

During the Revolution of Dignity, he headed the Maidan Self-Defense. As the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, he stood at the origins of the creation of volunteer battalions and the National Guard, the formation of the new Armed Forces of Ukraine. As the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, he made every effort to adopt the law on language, defended the parliament as an independent institution and a symbol of democracy.<\/p>\n

In the first days of the invasion, he joined the 206th Battalion, carried out combat orders on a par with everyone else, was on duty at checkpoints, helped in the evacuation of civilians and the liberation of the Kiev region.<\/p>\n

Andrey had unconditional authority among the military, in parliament, among diplomats and international partners. Today, our team receives thousands of calls from the army, from politicians, from Ukraine’s friends in the world, everyone is shocked by this terrorist attack. This is not just a murder. This is a real terrorist war, this is “denazification” in Russian. This is an attack on defenders in the military and political sense. And at the same time – a manifestation of the weakness of the government, which is unable to ensure security even for those who are symbols of statehood. But we will not be intimidated!<\/p>\n

Russia was hunting Andrey. We knew that he, like other members of our team, was on the Kremlin’s so-called hit lists since 2014. They had tried to organize attacks against him before. On December 24, 2014, not far from the Kiev Hotel, an unknown person threw a combat grenade at his feet. Parubiy was wounded then.<\/p>\n

He was dangerous for his enemies because he always told the truth and fought uncompromisingly. But, unfortunately, he also experienced persecution and humiliation inside the country. How many times did those who were not worth even his little finger try to devalue and humiliate him? How many times did vile people mock the statesman and patriot. Today is the day when these worthless people must stoop before the memory of Andriy Parubiy. Everyone who devalued and persecuted Andriy must ask for forgiveness.<\/p>\n

“European Solidarity” demands that the authorities and law enforcement agencies conduct an immediate, honest, transparent investigation of this terrorist act. Ukrainians must hear the names of those who carried out and ordered it. We emphasize that this was an attempt not only on our friend and comrade. This is a blow to the whole of Ukraine, an attempt to blow up our statehood and sow fear.<\/p>\n

We are convinced that Andriy Parubiy deserves the highest honor – the title of Hero of Ukraine. His contribution to the defense of Independence, the Ukrainian language, identity, the formation of a modern army and parliamentarism is invaluable.<\/p>\n

Our hearts are with Andrey’s family today – his father, wife, daughter, sister. We share their unspeakable pain and sorrow.<\/p>\n

Andriy Parubiy will forever remain in the history of Ukraine as one of those who created our Independence and defended it in the most difficult times.<\/p>\n

We call on the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine:<\/p>\n

    <\/p>\n
  1. appeal to the parliaments and governments of foreign states, international organizations to condemn this act of political terror, which is part of Russia\u2019s aggressive war against Ukraine.<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  2. We ask the European Parliament and the parliaments of the EU Member States to honour the memory of the former Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, a member of the EU faction, with a minute of silence.<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  3. Demand that law enforcement agencies immediately, professionally, transparently and effectively investigate the murder of Andriy Parubiy, if necessary with the involvement of foreign experts.<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  4. Call on Ukraine\u2019s international partners to increase political and sanctions pressure on the Russian Federation as a terrorist state that does not stop at killing Ukrainian political and public figures.<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  5. To appeal to partners to provide Ukraine with additional support in the area of defense and security, in particular in the development of systems of protection against terrorist and sabotage attacks.<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  6. To note the importance of strengthening national unity within Ukraine, uniting democratic forces, avoiding political persecution and harassment of opponents.<\/li>\n

    <\/ol>\n

    Andriy Parubiy\u2019s honesty, sacrifice, patriotism and devotion to Ukraine will forever remain an example for future generations.<\/p>\n

    Today, Ukraine needs the unity of the Free World more than ever. Only by working together can we stop the terrorist state that is trying to destroy the Ukrainian people and undermine the foundations of the international order.<\/p>\n

    Eternal memory, Andrey! Glory to Ukraine!<\/p>\n

    Let us recall that on August 30 , public and political figure Andriy Parubiy was killed in Lviv<\/a> .<\/p>\n

    It later became known that a shooter who killed the current member of parliament from European Solidarity and former chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Andriy Parubiy is being sought in the Lviv region<\/a> . A photo of the alleged killer is being published online.<\/p>\n

    Later, journalists reported that deputy Andriy Parubiy was shot 8 times by a man disguised as a courier.<\/a><\/p>\n

    By the way, a video of the moment of the murder of the people’s deputy from European Solidarity and former speaker of parliament Andriy Parubiy appeared<\/a> on social networks.<\/p>\n

    It is worth noting that a special operation called Siren was announced in Lviv to search for the killer of the people’s deputy<\/a> , former chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Andriy Parubiy.<\/p>\n
