At the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in China, Vladimir Putin made a series of statements about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The Russian president traditionally shifted responsibility for the war to the West and called the 2014 events in Kyiv a “coup d’\u00e9tat.” At the same time, he mentioned the “understandings” reached at the summit with Donald Trump in Alaska, saying that they could supposedly open a “path to peace.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is noted that on September 1, a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO member states was held in China, at which the head of the Kremlin, Vladimir Putin, spoke. His speech concerned, in particular, the war in Ukraine, which he tried to present as a “crisis provoked by the West.”<\/p>\n

Putin repeated Kremlin propaganda theses, claiming that the “cause of the conflict” was NATO’s desire to expand and “attempts to draw Ukraine into the alliance.” He again denied the fact of a direct Russian attack, trying to present the war as the result of a “coup d’\u00e9tat in Kyiv.”<\/p>\n

Separately, Putin focused on the agreements allegedly reached during a recent meeting with Donald Trump in Alaska. According to him, these “understandings” could “open the way to peace,” although he did not provide specific details. The Russian leader also said that he intends to inform his SCO partners about the results of the talks.<\/p>\n

Putin also thanked China, India and other countries that Moscow calls “strategic partners” for their proposals for resolving the war.<\/p>\n

“Moscow widely appreciates the efforts of China, India and other partners in the settlement of Ukraine,” Putin said.<\/p>\n

He stressed that “the principles of the UN remain unshakable” and called the SCO “the locomotive of multipolarity.”<\/p>\n

As you know, on August 31, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin arrived in China for a four-day visit<\/a> , where he will participate in a number of events.<\/p>\n

Earlier it was reported that US President Donald Trump said that he wanted to bring Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky to the negotiating table to reach a peace agreement to end the war in Ukraine<\/a> . He emphasized that both sides bear responsibility for the conflict and warned of the possibility of “economic war” against Russia in the absence of progress.<\/p>\n

By the way, at the same meeting, US President’s Special Representative for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, stated that the US intends to achieve a resolution to Russia’s war against Ukraine by the end of 2025.<\/a><\/p>\n
