A worrying trend has been recorded in Ukraine – drug addiction has increased among adolescents aged 15-16. Despite a decrease in alcohol consumption in this age group, there is an increase in the proportion of young people experimenting with narcotic substances, including “hard” ones.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is reported by<\/a> the Center for Public Health.<\/p>\n

According to the 2024 Drug and Alcohol Situation Report, the proportion of adolescents who regularly drink alcohol has decreased, but the rate of excessive consumption remains stable at about 14%.<\/p>\n

Instead, the number of those who have tried drugs has increased significantly, from ecstasy and amphetamines to heroin and cocaine. Of particular concern is the use of sedatives and tranquilizers by adolescents without a doctor’s prescription.<\/p>\n

Experts emphasize that the risks are only increasing against the backdrop of war, internal displacement, and psychological trauma. The impact of these factors affects not only the mental health of adolescents, but also the spread of substance abuse.<\/p>\n

In addition, in 2024, large-scale problems with illegal drug trafficking were recorded: 87 clandestine drug laboratories were discovered, and law enforcement officers seized the most cannabis, tranquilizers, and stimulants. There has also been a sharp increase in the number of offenses committed while intoxicated, including driving under the influence of psychoactive substances.<\/p>\n

The Center for Public Health emphasizes that Ukraine still lacks effective prevention programs that could actually reduce the risks of drug addiction among young people. Currently, most measures are limited to information only, without a systematic impact on risk factors and the formation of protective mechanisms in adolescents.<\/p>\n

Recall that the incidence of COVID-19 is increasing in Ukraine<\/a> . From August 25 to 31, 10,622 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in Ukraine – this is 46.2% more than a week earlier. By the way, in 2025, the number of measles cases in Ukraine increased tenfold<\/a> . Since the beginning of 2025, 1,200 cases have been recorded, of which almost 900 are children.<\/p>\n

As is known, in May, the largest criminal organization engaged in the industrial production and sale of drugs was exposed and neutralized in Ukraine<\/a> . As a result of a multi-stage special operation carried out in 15 regions, law enforcement officers liquidated 19 drug laboratories and 17 warehouses, detained 67 participants in the criminal scheme and seized psychotropic drugs worth over 2 billion hryvnias.<\/p>\n
