The growth was driven by record inflows from international partners, a reduction in NBU interventions in the foreign exchange market, and a positive revaluation of financial instruments.

This was reported by the NBU press service .

As of September 1, 2025, Ukraine’s international reserves amounted to $46.03 billion. They increased by 7% in a month, approaching a historical maximum, the National Bank reported.

The increase in reserves was due to several factors. First, in August, Ukraine received significant amounts of external financing – a total of over $6.1 billion. In particular, $4.71 billion came from the European Union within the framework of the Ukraine Facility and the G7 ERA initiative, another $1.05 billion through the World Bank accounts, and almost $395 million was raised through the placement of domestic government bonds.

At the same time, the government fulfilled its obligations on external debts in August, allocating $619.8 million to servicing and repayment. Separately, Ukraine paid $426.9 million to the International Monetary Fund.

Secondly, the volume of interventions by the National Bank in the foreign exchange market has decreased. In August, the regulator sold $2.7 billion, which is 22% less than in July, and bought $0.6 million to reserves. This indicates a certain improvement in the situation in the foreign exchange market.

Third, the revaluation of financial instruments played a positive role. Due to the change in the market value of assets, reserves increased by an additional $576.5 million.

According to the NBU’s calculations, the current volume of international reserves provides financing for five months of future imports. This is one of the highest levels in the history of independent Ukraine and demonstrates the resilience of the financial system even in wartime.

It was previously reported that the National Bank of Ukraine is still retaining the US dollar as the main exchange rate-forming currency, but is already seriously considering the possibility of switching to the euro.

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , Twitter , Telegram , and Instagram.

Ukraine’s international reserves rose to $46 billion in August, one of the highest levels in the country’s history.
