The fifth president and leader of “European Solidarity” Petro Poroshenko met with officials and members of the British parliament during his visit to Great Britain, where he will take part in the VIII International Summit on European Security in Cambridge.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In particular, the fifth President discussed support for Ukraine with the British Minister for Europe, North America and Overseas Territories Stephen Doughty. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt is very important to strengthen transatlantic unity and sustainable support for Ukraine, because today we stand at the forefront of protecting common values and interests of peace, security and stability of the Free World,\u201d Poroshenko noted on social networks. <\/p>\n

He stressed that it is necessary to increase comprehensive pressure on the Russians due to the strengthening of Ukraine\u2019s position and the negotiating power of its allies, due to sanctions and the confiscation of frozen Russian assets. <\/p>\n

“The war is taking away many Ukrainian heroes. Including those who laid the foundations of our current struggle and resilience. Thank you for your condolences in connection with the death of former Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Andriy Parubiy. Our party member, brother and friend. The internal unity of Ukraine is very important. This was given special attention. It is necessary to continue democratic reforms, strengthen the rule of law, internal stability, as well as dialogue with all political forces in the state,” Poroshenko wrote. <\/p>\n

The leader of European Solidarity also met with Ukraine’s friends in the UK Parliament. “The meeting brought together representatives of various political forces in the UK, a true cross-party representation united by joint support for Ukraine. We discussed in detail the situation at the front, the needs of our army and the enemy’s constant attacks. Particular attention was paid to strengthening Ukraine’s negotiating positions and the overall negotiating power of the allies. I called for providing Ukraine with more weapons, in particular long-range missiles, investing in joint weapons production, strengthening sanctions against our common enemy and using frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine,” Poroshenko noted. <\/p>\n

“We also discussed approaches to ending the war, the importance of genuine, legally binding security guarantees for Ukraine and the effectiveness of the “coalition of the determined”. Of course, we did not ignore the internal development of Ukraine, first of all the need for democratic stability and strengthening of national unity, respect for the rule of law and avoidance of political persecution and sanctions against opponents, the importance of freedom of the media and ensuring the rights of the opposition,” the fifth President writes.<\/p>\n
