Among them are those convicted of murder, rape, pedophilia, and robbery.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p> Reuters reports this, noting that Moscow is wary of a repeat of the 1990s, when veterans of the Afghan war became the source of a surge in violent crime.<\/p>\n<p> In 2023 alone, according to Russian media estimates, &#8220;SVO veterans&#8221; killed at least 242 people and seriously injured another 227. To avoid an explosion of crime, the Kremlin is massively &#8220;recruiting&#8221; militants: employing them in state structures, the deputy corps, and youth movements.<\/p>\n<p> However, analysts warn that the scale of the war in Ukraine and the number of participants are much greater than during the Afghan campaign.
