Fears of internal destabilization are rapidly growing in Russia after hundreds of thousands of soldiers, including former prisoners, return from the front. Among them are those convicted of murder, rape, pedophilia, and robbery.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Reuters reports this, noting that Moscow is wary of a repeat of the 1990s, when veterans of the Afghan war became the source of a surge in violent crime.<\/p>\n

In 2023 alone, according to Russian media estimates, “SVO veterans” killed at least 242 people and seriously injured another 227. To avoid an explosion of crime, the Kremlin is massively “recruiting” militants: employing them in state structures, the deputy corps, and youth movements.<\/p>\n

However, analysts warn that the scale of the war in Ukraine and the number of participants are much greater than during the Afghan campaign. The consequences for Russia itself could be much harsher.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, the Russian offensive turned out to be a failure: in August alone, the losses of the occupiers exceeded 35 thousand people, and the advance was half as slow as in previous months. In four years of full-scale war against Ukraine, the Kremlin has never achieved the stated goals of the \u201cNorthern Front\u201d, including control over the Donetsk region.<\/a><\/p>\n

As reported, in recent weeks , Russian occupation forces have adjusted their tactics in the Pokrovskoye direction and are trying to break into the city.<\/a><\/p>\n
