Petro Poroshenko, Ukraine\u2019s fifth President and leader of \u201cEuropean Solidarity,\u201d outlined in Strasbourg the key points of the European Parliament\u2019s Resolution: boosting defense aid, opening EU membership negotiations, and reinforcing democratic support.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThe European Parliament overwhelmingly approved the Resolution on the European Commission\u2019s 2023\u20132024 reports on Ukraine\u2019s progress in reforms in the context of EU enlargement. European partners stand shoulder to shoulder with us in our fight against the aggressor,\u201d the fifth President said.<\/p>\n

He noted that Europe has already provided Ukraine with \u20ac50 billion in military aid<\/strong> and is calling for more weapons and ammunition to be delivered before any negotiations take place, for a significant increase in intelligence sharing with Ukraine, and for lifting all restrictions on the use of Western weapons systems against military targets in Russia.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe EU insists on Ukraine\u2019s integration into defense initiatives and encourages the development of joint weapons production projects with EU and NATO partners,\u201d the leader of European Solidarity stated.<\/p>\n

Poroshenko thanked all Members of the European Parliament for supporting Ukraine in its struggle for statehood, independence, sovereignty, and its European choice, as well as for backing the implementation of democratic reforms.<\/p>\n

\u201cSpecial thanks to European Parliament rapporteur Michael Haller for his initiative and enormous, thorough work in preparing the Resolution, as well as to our political family, the European People\u2019s Party, for their leadership and support,\u201d he emphasized.<\/p>\n

The European Solidarity leader added that, on the issue of opening accession negotiations, the European Parliament\u2019s position is clearly pro-Ukrainian, stressing the need to quickly launch the \u2018Fundamentals\u2019 negotiation cluster<\/strong> for Ukraine and Moldova.<\/p>\n

According to Poroshenko, the European Parliament provided an honest, objective, and friendly assessment of the state of affairs in Ukraine regarding the effectiveness of democratic institutions, the rule of law, and judicial independence.<\/p>\n

The Resolution also directly identifies the weak areas of Ukrainian democracy and reforms<\/strong>, stressing that without progress in these fields, accession negotiations cannot be accelerated.<\/p>\n
