A decision has been made in Kyiv, which is already being called a precedent: the Court of Appeal has confirmed the fact of marital relations between Zoryan Kis and Timur Levchuk. This is the first case in Ukraine when a court recognized the union of two men as a family, creating a new legal basis for further processes in the cases of LGBTQ+ couples.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported by<\/a> the All-Ukrainian LGBTQI human rights organization “Insight”.<\/p>\n

It is noted that the Kyiv Court of Appeal rejected the complaint and upheld the decision of the Desnyanskyi District Court, which recognized that Kis and Levchuk live together as one family and are in a de facto marital relationship. The session was held in open mode, during which a support rally took place near the court.<\/p>\n

Participants in the rally held posters with slogans: “My family exists, but the state does not recognize it,” “Family is above stereotypes,” and “LGBTQ+ people do not take away your rights, they just want the same ones.”<\/p>\n

After the decision was announced, Zoryan Kis and Timur Levchuk shared their emotions on social media.<\/p>\n

“We are very happy with this decision. This is a step forward for the entire LGBTI+ community. We are grateful to everyone who was in court today. This case shows a simple thing: when we are together, when we are not silent and stand up for our rights, change becomes possible,” they said.<\/p>\n

They emphasized that there is still much work to be done, but today’s ruling was an important step towards equality.<\/p>\n

“Love is stronger than prejudice. And equality is inevitable,” Kis and Levchuk noted.<\/p>\n

Experts emphasize that the current legislation of Ukraine does not allow for the official registration of same-sex marriages. The ruling concerns a specific case and the actual recognition of family relations. At the same time, lawyers emphasize that this decision may become a guide for other similar cases and push for legislative changes in the future.<\/p>\n

It was previously reported that the Arch of Friendship of Peoples in Kyiv, which was recently renamed the Arch of Freedom of the Ukrainian People, could be made a symbol of LGBT.<\/a><\/p>\n
