On the night of September 12, Poland completely suspended traffic across the border with Belarus. As explained in Warsaw, the reason was the large-scale joint military exercises “West-2025”, organized by the Armed Forces of Russia and Belarus.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was stated by<\/a> Polish Interior Minister Marcin Kerwi\u0144ski during a briefing at the Terespol border checkpoint, Onet reports, citing other media.<\/p>\n

According to Kerwinski, the exercises are clearly of a nature and “directed against Poland and the European Union.” For security reasons, the Polish side has decided to temporarily completely stop any movement across the common border.<\/p>\n

“Traffic was stopped at midnight. The crossing will be resumed only when we are completely confident in the safety of our citizens. At the same time, from the economic side, we are interested in the earliest possible return to normal,” the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs noted.<\/p>\n

The restrictions apply to both directions – both departure from Poland to Belarus and entry. The temporary suspension of traffic applies to both motor vehicles and freight trains.<\/p>\n

What exactly is blocked:<\/p>\n

Passenger cars are no longer allowed at the Terespol-Brest checkpoint.<\/p>\n

Trucks will not be able to cross the border through “Kukuriki-Kozlovichi”.<\/p>\n

Three railway freight crossings are also closed:

\u25aa\ufe0f Siemian\u00f3wka \u2013 Svisloch
\u25aa\ufe0f Terespol \u2013 Brest<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Belarusian media reports that the Poles have begun to strengthen the border, including by erecting barbed wire and installing barriers. As of 01:00 (Belarusian time), not a single vehicle had been allowed through.<\/p>\n

Buses remained on the bridge connecting Poland and Belarus, and their drivers are now forced to look for alternative routes to return to the European Union.<\/p>\n

Earlier, Poland announced the complete closure of its borders with Belarus on the night of September 12.<\/a> The reason was the large-scale joint Russian-Belarusian military exercises “West-2025”, which Warsaw views as a potential security threat.<\/p>\n

Recall, after a group of Russian drones penetrated the airspace of Poland, a NATO member state, a number of Western governments expressed solidarity and concern<\/a> . Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson condemned the violation of the Polish border by Russian drones, calling it an \u201cunacceptable act.\u201d Latvian President Edgars Rink\u0117vi\u010dius also issued a statement, emphasizing Poland\u2019s full support. In his opinion, such incidents indicate that the Russian Federation\u2019s war against Ukraine has direct consequences for the security of neighboring states.<\/p>\n

Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide described the situation as \u201cdeeply worrying,\u201d emphasizing that Norway stands shoulder to shoulder with Poland and other NATO allies.<\/p>\n

As reported, on the night of September 9-10, the situation in Eastern Europe escalated again – Russia launched a massive strike on the territory of Ukraine, while a number of enemy drones crossed the air border of Poland<\/a> . This forced Warsaw to activate air defense forces and engage aviation.<\/p>\n

It should be noted that last night 19 Russian drones violated Polish airspace<\/a> . Polish air defense forces were able to eliminate only four of them.<\/p>\n

It should be added that later , in addition to seven drones, a missile fragment was also found on Polish territory.<\/a><\/p>\n

By the way, on the morning of September 10 , Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk initiated an urgent government meeting due to an incident involving the violation of the country’s airspace by Russian drones.<\/a><\/p>\n

As is known, the night attack by Russian drones on the territory of Poland, which Warsaw called an \u201cunprecedented violation\u201d, was another step by the Kremlin on the path of escalation. It seems that this incident was carefully prepared long before the current phase: among the wreckage of the downed UAVs, found back in July, 4G modems with SIM cards of Polish and Lithuanian operators were found. This indicates that Russia was preparing for flights of its strike drones over the territories of these countries and testing the possibility of connecting them to local mobile networks.<\/a><\/p>\n
