Donald Trump agreed with the European Union’s position on the need to put pressure on Russian dictator Vladimir Putin – the West must force the Kremlin to sit at the negotiating table.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported by Politico, citing several European diplomats and officials.<\/p>\n

It is noted that the European Union sent a technical delegation to Washington to discuss new sanctions against Russia with the Trump administration. These include restrictions on energy, enterprises, and banks that support the Russian economy.<\/p>\n

“Trump is finally on our side. Now the question is how to reconcile the two approaches,” said one European diplomat.<\/p>\n

Despite agreeing on the need to increase pressure, the US and the EU have different approaches. Trump is betting on trade tools – in particular, tariffs on countries that buy Russian oil and gas. At the same time, the EU is insisting on targeted sanctions against financial institutions and companies that continue to cooperate with Moscow.<\/p>\n

Trump previously announced his intention to impose 100% tariffs on China and India if they do not stop importing Russian energy. But only on the condition that the European Union supports similar actions.<\/p>\n

However, in Brussels, this option is considered unrealistic – both from an economic and political point of view.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t impose tariffs. We are a trading bloc. We export. It\u2019s our DNA,\u201d explained Agathe Demare, a senior analyst at the European Council on Foreign Relations.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the EU itself is preparing the 19th package of sanctions. According to diplomats, it should be as effective as possible \u2014 which is why Brussels is insisting on coordinated action with the US.<\/p>\n

Although Trump’s idea of tariffs has not yet found support among European ministers, some EU countries are discussing the introduction of trade restrictions on the Kremlin’s partners.<\/p>\n

Europe and the US agree on one thing: Putin does not want peace, so economic pressure must be tougher and more coordinated than ever.<\/p>\n

Recall, US President Donald Trump sees “no reason” for Russia’s economic isolation, except for the continuation of the war against Ukraine.<\/a><\/p>\n

As reported, the US is calling on the European Union to impose tough 100 percent tariffs on trade with China and India to increase economic pressure on Russia and force it to make peace<\/a> . In response, America is ready to take similar measures and join a joint sanctions campaign.<\/p>\n
