These are the largest industrial agglomerations – Pokrovsk (Pokrovsk, Mirnograd, Dobropolye) and Slavyano-Kramatorsk (Slavyansk, Kramatorsk, Druzhkovka, Konstantinovka). And control over these industrial agglomerations is a strategic task of the Russian occupiers.
It is worth paying attention to how the Russians are trying to resolve the Donetsk issue through military and political blackmail. First, they intensified military actions in the north of the Sumy and Kharkiv regions, which, according to the decree of the Russian dictator, were not “included in the composition” of the Russian Federation. And when this scenario failed, they increased political pressure on the United States and Ukraine, trying to force the Ukrainians to withdraw their Defense Forces from Donbas.

Now I will explain why the Donetsk region is a priority. The enemy is not interested in the region’s territory or the ghostly “Russian world” with a Russian-speaking population, but exclusively in control of mineral resources. The intense fighting in the Pokrovsky district was primarily associated with Russian attempts to take control of mineral deposits. The settlement of Shevchenko has the largest lithium deposits in Europe, and Kotlin has a coking coal deposit. Without coking coal, Ukrainian metallurgy will face serious problems. According to experts, steel production in Ukraine may fall from 6.5 million to 2.5 million tons per year. And this is a threat of social tension, primarily in the controlled territories of the Zaporizhzhya and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
Currently, there is a redeployment of Russian army units on the Donetsk front. And this is happening against the backdrop of Putin’s statement that if Ukraine does not agree to the de facto Russian ultimatum to withdraw SDU units from the Donetsk region, they will resolve this by military means.

That is, Putin makes it clear that the strategic task is to establish control over the entire territory of the Donetsk region. This is precisely what is behind the redeployment of units of the 155th Marine Brigade back to the Pokrovsky Front from the Kursk direction. Let us recall that before the start of the Kursk offensive operation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, units of the 155th Russian Brigade were concentrated precisely in the Pokrovsky direction. And only after the advance of the Ukrainian Defense Forces deep into Russian territory were these units redeployed to the Kursk Region.

The Pokrovsk direction is important for the Russians not even from a military, but from a political point of view. Access to the administrative borders with the Dnepropetrovsk region will be used as an element of military-political pressure on the Ukrainian leadership in the form of threats to scale up the theater of military operations.

After the occupiers established control over the Pokrovsk-Konstantinovka highway, Konstantinovka became one of their main lines of attack.

The situation is aggravated by the fact that in the direction of the city, the Russians control the dominant heights, because Kostyantynivka is located in a lowland. This creates serious problems for both local residents and the defense forces. Because the enemy, unfortunately, has the ability to keep the rear locations of the Ukrainian army and the entire city under fire control. The Russians can even use barrel artillery there. And the attack on Kostyantynivka on September 3, which led to casualties among the civilian population, confirms the use of such artillery by the enemy.

In Konstantinovka, a threat of operational cordon has already been created – the occupiers have advanced there from three sides. In the Toretsk direction, the occupiers have taken control of the dominant heights and have tactical successes in the Dilievki area. This creates the preconditions for further advancement of the occupiers in the direction of Konstantinovka at a distance of approximately 7 kilometers.

In the Chasov Yar direction, a similar situation with the commanding heights has developed, as in Toretsk. Now the occupiers are trying to resolve the issue of establishing full control over Vremenny Yar. Moreover, Chasov Yar is the key not only to Konstantinovka and Druzhkovka, but to the entire agglomeration.

A sharp increase in activity is recorded in the Liman direction. Seversk is actually the eastern flank of the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration. Advancement towards Seversk (the occupiers are already a maximum of 1.5 kilometers into the city) creates a threat of flank envelopment of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. The main objective of the occupation forces in this area is to try to take control of this agglomeration by the end of 2025.

They will not leave the Pokrovskoe and adjacent Novopavlovskoe directions, where they will still try to reach the administrative borders of the Dnepropetrovsk region.

Let us recall that in August the Ukrainian Defense Forces lost 5 square kilometers in the Pokrovsk direction. And at the same time they were able to regain control over a territory of 26 square kilometers. I would like to draw your attention to the fact that the SDF is returning temporarily occupied territories not only in the Pokrovsk direction.

For example, on August 24, the Armed Forces of Ukraine took control of the village of Novomykhaylovka (Donetsk region). A video of the successful operation was published by the Main Intelligence Directorate.

“The GUR and the Third Corps are reclaiming the territories: Novomykhailivka is under the control of Ukrainian forces! A successful offensive operation was carried out by the forces of the active operations department of the GUR of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, in particular the “Artan” unit, and the 2nd assault battalion of the Third assault brigade. The units drove out the occupiers and resumed control,” the GUR of the Ministry of Defense reported.

It is specified that the enemy lost about a company of personnel and was forced to overthrow reserves from other parts of the front.
In addition, SDU units carried out successful counteroffensive actions and deoccupied three more settlements in Donetsk Oblast. The villages of Mykhailivka, Zelenaya Roshcha and Vladimirovka returned to Ukrainian control.

Also follow “Pryamy” on Facebook , Twitter , Telegram and Instagram.

• Materials published in the “THOUGHTS” section reflect the opinion of the author of the publication, who bears full responsibility for the accuracy of the information.
• The editors of prm.ua may not share the opinions expressed in the author’s material.
• The owner of the web page in the “THOUGHTS” section is the author of the publication.

The Ukrainian Defense Forces control more than a third of the territory of the Donetsk region, where important industrial and resource facilities are located.
