Ukrainian military intelligence carried out a large-scale cyberattack on the resources of the Central Election Commission of Russia during the so-called “single voting day” on September 14.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to journalist sources, the attack was directed against the servers of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation, the remote electronic voting platform (DEG), Rostelecom’s backbone routers, and the state portal “Gosuslugi”.<\/p>\n

As a result, a significant portion of digital services that provided online voting were temporarily out of service, making it impossible for many Russians to vote in local mayoral and gubernatorial elections.<\/p>\n

The head of the Russian Central Election Commission, Ella Panfilova, confirmed the attack, saying that “the Internet was down in the Central Election Commission building.” Roskomnadzor also confirmed the problems with the services, explaining them by “traffic degradation on the Rostelecom backbone network.”<\/p>\n

The GUR emphasized that the purpose of the cyberattack was to disrupt the illegal elections that the Russian authorities organized, including in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.<\/p>\n

By the way, one of the main operators of suburban trains in the Moscow region \u2014 the Moscow-Tver Suburban Passenger Company \u2014 became the target of a large-scale cyberattack<\/a> . The attack paralyzed key digital systems that provide rail service between Moscow and Tver.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, as a result of a large-scale cyberattack by two hacker groups \u2014 Silent Crow and the Belarusian \u201cCyberpartisans\u201d \u2014 the IT infrastructure of the Russian airline Aeroflot was destroyed,<\/a> dozens of flights were canceled, and 20 TB of data was stolen, including personal information of passengers. The hackers stated that they had been monitoring the company\u2019s critical systems for a year, and are now preparing to publish the stolen information. In response, the Russian authorities are silent. It should be noted that more than 20 thousand passengers were affected by the incident, and the total financial losses could reach tens of millions of dollars<\/a> . The full restoration of the digital infrastructure could take a year.<\/p>\n

As reported, Ukrainian cyber activists, in cooperation with military intelligence, successfully paralyzed the activities of one of the largest Russian drone manufacturers<\/a> , the company Gaskar Integration. As a result of the attack, more than 47 TB of critical data was destroyed, internal systems were blocked, and the plant’s work was effectively stopped.<\/p>\n
