MMA star and former UFC champion Conor McGregor has announced his withdrawal from the race for president of Ireland.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“After careful consideration and consultation with my family, I am withdrawing my candidacy from this presidential race,” the athlete wrote.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to him, it was not an easy decision, but the right one.<\/span><\/p>\n

He stressed that he was “sincere and genuine” in his intentions to run for office, and was also “truly amazed” by the support he received.<\/span><\/p>\n

McGregor was due to address Dublin City Council and Kildare County Council on Monday in a bid to be on the ballot in the October election. Under local requirements, he would have to be nominated by 20 members of the Irish parliament or four local authorities.<\/span><\/p>\n
