The Kremlin is betting on the defense of occupied Crimea, even sacrificing the security of strategic facilities in Russia. Ukrainian military officials say that the density of air defense on the peninsula is growing much faster than around oil refineries in the Russian rear. This decision indicates the geopolitical importance of occupied Crimea for Moscow.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was stated on the air of Espresso<\/a> by the representative of the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Dmytro Pletenchuk. According to him, Russia has concentrated all available air defense systems on the peninsula, including the newest S-500 “Prometheus”.<\/p>\n

“I don’t know what other new air defense complex the Russians can install in Crimea. They already had all the air defense assets they have there. The Russians have long ago concentrated the S-500 Prometheus there. Therefore, for the Russians, Crimea is and remains an important location in every sense… They are strengthening the air defense of Crimea much more than their own refineries,” he noted.<\/p>\n

At the same time, Pletenchuk recalled that Ukrainian forces regularly strike at the military targets of the occupiers.<\/p>\n

“Our units use resources to reduce the enemy’s capabilities in the rear. The oil refining industry for the Russians is a source of income and an opportunity to conduct combat operations. Dense air defense does not mean that it has no vulnerabilities – it periodically flies there,” he added.<\/p>\n

It should be noted that the S-500 Prometheus is the latest Russian long-range anti-aircraft missile system, designed to intercept aircraft, ballistic and hypersonic missiles, as well as satellites in low orbits. It is considered the most modern in the Russian air defense arsenal.<\/p>\n

Earlier, the Naval Forces struck a communications hub of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation in temporarily occupied Crimea<\/a> .<\/p>\n

At the same time, the Crimean Wind partisans recorded in Crimea how the Russian military deployed new air defense assets<\/a> – several S-300\/S-400 air defense missile system launchers and radar systems. <\/p>\n
