US President Donald Trump made a series of high-profile statements during a joint press conference with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, the main of which was the admission that Russian leader Vladimir Putin “let him down.” The American president openly admitted that he expected an easier path to ending the war in Ukraine thanks to his own contacts with the Kremlin, but the situation turned out to be much more complicated.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In his words, the US president did not hide his disappointment with Moscow’s position.<\/p>\n

“The person I relied on the most was Putin. I thought it would be the easiest way to resolve the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. But he let me down. Really let me down,” Trump stressed.<\/p>\n

He added that his administration will continue to search for ways to achieve peace, but the current situation forces us to consider the unpredictability of war.<\/p>\n

“War is always about surprises. What seems easy may turn out to be the most difficult, and vice versa. I believe that peace will be achieved, but it is a more difficult process than I thought,” the American president noted.<\/p>\n

Trump also directly linked the duration of the war to economic factors, particularly the oil market. He once again called on European countries to stop buying Russian energy.<\/p>\n

“If the price of oil falls, Putin will simply have no choice – he will be forced to get out of this war,” Trump said, recalling that the US has already taken tough measures against India for purchasing Russian oil, despite friendly relations with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.<\/p>\n

At the same time, he emphasized that Britain is not among the countries that buy Russian oil, and thanked Prime Minister Starmer for this position.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Keir Starmer, in turn, emphasized that Moscow’s latest actions prove the Kremlin’s lack of real desire for peace.<\/p>\n

“In recent days, Putin has shown his true colors – carrying out the largest attacks since the beginning of the invasion, with new casualties and an unprecedented violation of NATO airspace. These are not the actions of a man who seeks peace,” the head of the British government said.<\/p>\n

He also confirmed that London, together with Washington, will work to increase pressure on Russia to force it to the negotiating table.<\/p>\n

“President Trump and I are united in our belief that peace in Ukraine is only possible when the Kremlin understands that there is no other way out,” Starmer emphasized.<\/p>\n

While the focus was on Ukraine, Trump also touched on other issues. In particular, he said that the United States seeks to regain control of the Bagram base in Afghanistan, which was lost after the withdrawal of American troops in 2021.<\/p>\n

“We gave it away for nothing. We are trying to get it back because it is strategically important,” the president explained.<\/p>\n

He also confirmed that he plans to speak with Chinese leader Xi Jinping in the coming days about the future of TikTok, emphasizing the “tremendous value” of this platform for the United States. In addition, Trump commented on the situation surrounding TV host Jimmy Kimmel, saying that his dismissal was due to “bad ratings, not an issue of free speech.”<\/p>\n

During the meeting, both leaders also reaffirmed their countries’ unity on global issues.<\/p>\n

“We have renewed a special relationship for a new era. The US and the UK are number one partners in defence, trade and science. Together we will define the 21st century,” Starmer concluded.<\/p>\n
