The European Union seeks to abandon the purchase of Russian liquefied natural gas earlier than planned under the 19th package of sanctions against Russia.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This<\/span> was reported<\/span><\/a> by Reuters.<\/span><\/p>\n

The European Commission plans to propose banning Russian LNG exports a year earlier – January 1, 2027.<\/span><\/p>\n

The corresponding decision is related to the pressure of US President Donald Trump on European countries to abandon Russian energy.<\/span><\/p>\n

In this case, the EU would be forced to cover any shortage in LNG supplies by purchasing from the US. This would increase Europe’s dependence on Washington.<\/span><\/p>\n

Currently, France, Spain, Belgium, and the Netherlands import LNG from Russia, and gas transported through the TurkStream pipeline goes to Slovakia, Hungary, and Bulgaria.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is separately noted that in addition to gas, the new restrictions will affect part of the Russian Federation’s shadow tanker fleet, cryptocurrency, Russian and Central Asian banks, Chinese oil refineries and economic zones.<\/span><\/p>\n

Recall, on Friday, September 19, the European Commission officially approved a new, 19th package of sanctions<\/a> against the Russian Federation.<\/p>\n

Trump previously stated that he was ready to impose “serious sanctions” against Russia<\/a> , but would do so only if NATO member countries refused to buy Russian raw materials.<\/p>\n
