US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping held a phone call on Monday, discussing Russia’s war in Ukraine, trade, TikTok and the fight against fentanyl, the first dialogue between Washington and Beijing in three months.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The American president wrote<\/a> about the conversation on the social network Truth Social.<\/p>\n

Trump said he had “a very productive phone call” with Xi. He added that the two sides had made progress on “many very important issues, including trade, fentanyl, the need to end the war between Russia and Ukraine, and approving the TikTok deal.”<\/p>\n

The US president also said he and Xi would meet in person at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in South Korea. The leaders also agreed to exchange visits: Trump will visit China in 2026, and Xi will visit the US at an “appropriate time.”<\/p>\n

It was the first conversation between the leaders of the US and China since June. It came amid agreements on the future of the social network TikTok and trade talks.<\/p>\n

According to Xinhua<\/a> News Agency, Trump and Xi Jinping had a frank and meaningful conversation about current Sino-US relations and issues of mutual interest, identifying strategic guidelines for their further development.<\/p>\n

Xi recalled that China and the United States were allies during World War II and stressed the importance of the current bilateral relationship. He said that both countries can support each other’s success and ensure common prosperity if they are willing to move forward.<\/p>\n

The Chinese leader called on Washington to avoid unilateral trade restrictions so as not to nullify the results of the negotiations, and also touched on the topic of TikTok, emphasizing that the Chinese government respects the decisions of companies and supports their negotiations in accordance with market rules.<\/p>\n

He expressed hope that the United States would create transparent and level playing field for Chinese investors.<\/p>\n

At the same time, Xinhua did not mention in its report at all that Trump and Xi discussed ending Russia’s war against Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Earlier, US President Donald Trump made several loud statements at a joint press conference with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer<\/a> . In particular, he said that Russian President Vladimir Putin “let him down.” The American leader frankly noted that he had hoped to end the war in Ukraine more quickly thanks to his contacts with the Kremlin, but the reality turned out to be much more complicated.<\/p>\n
