Specialists of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine have carried out a large-scale cyberattack aimed at key elements of Russia’s digital infrastructure. The attack targeted the payment system “SPB” (Fast Payment System) and one of the main telecom providers in the Russian Federation – “TransTeleCom”.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported<\/a> to LIGA.net by a source in Ukrainian intelligence.<\/p>\n

The operation lasted from September 24 to 25. The attack partially paralyzed the work of both systems, causing serious disruptions in the daily lives of Russians.<\/p>\n

In particular:<\/p>\n

Failure in banking services – inability to make transfers, pay for goods and services;<\/p>\n

Problems with online payment at gas stations – people could not fill up their cars without cash;<\/p>\n

Disruptions in public transport – QR code payment became unavailable;<\/p>\n

Disappearance of communications and television – failures in Internet connection and IPTV.<\/p>\n

According to preliminary estimates, the economic losses to Russia from the attack could reach $30 million. However, the real effect is much broader – the blow fell on critical digital channels serving millions of Russians.<\/p>\n

This cyberattack is another example of how Ukrainian intelligence carries out targeted but painful strikes not only on the battlefield, but also in cyberspace.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, Ukrainian intelligence has hacked the internal IT infrastructure of the occupation administration of Crimea for the second time and has once again gained full control over all their computers and servers<\/a> . As a result of the operation, it was possible to extract over 100 TB of secret information, including official correspondence of the “head of Crimea” Sergei Aksyonov, correspondence between occupation ministries, and documentation on the deportation of Ukrainian children.<\/p>\n

As reported, Ukrainian military intelligence carried out a large-scale cyberattack on the resources of the Central Election Commission of Russia<\/a> during the so-called \u201csingle voting day\u201d on September 14.<\/p>\n
