Astronauts could be sent on a 10-day trip around the Moon as early as February 2026.

The BBC writes about this.

The program, called Artemis II, involves a 10-day trip to the moon and back for four astronauts. NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover and Christina Koch and the Canadian Space Agency’s Jeremy Hansen will not land on the moon, although they will be the first crew to go beyond low Earth orbit since Apollo 17 in 1972.

Artemis II lead flight manager Jeff Radigan explained that the crew will fly further into space than anyone before.

“They will fly at least 5,000 nautical miles (9,200 km) past the Moon, which is much higher than previous missions,” he said in comments to reporters.

The Artemis II mission will be the second in the Artemis program, which aims to land humans on the Moon and establish a long-term presence on its surface. In addition, it is noted that during the mission, the crew will become so-called “experiments”. In particular, they will observe how space affects their bodies.

The first Artemis mission lasted 25 days and ended with the launch of an unmanned spacecraft in November 2022. During the mission, the spacecraft orbited the Moon and reentered the Earth’s atmosphere.

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , Twitter , Telegram , and Instagram .

NASA is planning its first manned mission to the Moon in 50 years.
