North Korea may be actively building up its nuclear capabilities. Pyongyang is doing so despite international sanctions and pressure. Seoul believes that the DPRK may already have huge reserves of highly enriched uranium. These reserves are enough to create hundreds of nuclear bombs.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was stated by South Korean Unification Minister Jeong Dong-yeon, whose words are quoted by Yonhap<\/a> .<\/p>\n

According to the official, centrifuges are still operating at full capacity in four nuclear centers of the DPRK, which are continuously accumulating material. The entire stockpile is estimated at about 2 thousand kilograms of enriched uranium. Up to 12 kilograms of uranium are enough for one nuclear bomb. Therefore, hundreds of warheads can be produced.<\/p>\n

“It is urgent to stop this. Even at this very hour, uranium centrifuges in four locations (in North Korea) are operating, probably accumulating nuclear materials,” the minister said.<\/p>\n

According to him, sanctions alone will no longer be enough to restrain Pyongyang. He believes the only chance for progress is the resumption of dialogue between the US and North Korea.<\/p>\n

“It would be desirable for the negotiations to take place as soon as possible,” the official added.<\/p>\n

Seoul believes that these talks could not only affect North Korea’s nuclear program, but also thaw inter-Korean relations. The South Korean government, according to Jeong Dong-yeon, is ready to do everything to create the conditions for this.<\/p>\n

It was previously reported that Russia had allegedly transferred a nuclear reactor for nuclear submarines to the DPRK<\/a> . If confirmed, this would mean a sharp increase in Pyongyang’s military capabilities and a dangerous precedent for violating international agreements.<\/p>\n

The Foreign Intelligence Service also reported that North Korea transferred about 6.5 million 122 mm artillery shells and approximately 600 artillery systems to Russia<\/a> .<\/p>\n

Recall that Russia is developing cooperation with the DPRK in the geological sphere<\/a> , in particular, in the search for uranium deposits.<\/p>\n
